Stamps with the theme Butterflies
A butterfly is a daytime flying insect. The butterfly life cycle consists of four parts - egg, larva, pupa and adult. It is a popular belief that butterflies have a very short lifespan. However, butterflies in their adult stage live from between one week to nearly one year, depending on the species. An adult butterfly has six legs and four wings . The body is divided into three segments: the head, the chest and the abdomen. They have two antennae, two compound eyes and a snout. Butterflies usually lay their eggs on plants, fixing them to leaves with a special glue-like substance they produce which hardens rapidly. The egg stage lasts several weeks. Butterflies are widely used as various objects of art and jewellery. They are also a popular motif in the visual and literary arts.
